room re-do...

Having recently rearranged my room
I thought I'd share my favorite bits.
Here is Donna Sue sporting a "new" farm chic frock.
I found it at a coffee shop (of all places!)
Pinned to her frock is this cute tchotchke:
a brooch of mason jars (How cute is that?!)
A gift from my maternal grandma. :)

I left my top shelf pretty much the same.
(Cuz I liked it! :D )
The bottom shelf I did farm themed for the summer.
My collection of vintage farmy children's books are displayed in a vintage Purina chick feeder!
I scored that sweet thing on a recently antiquing day trip with a dear friend.

A favorite photo of my dear Grandma Lou, seated on a hay mound in 1938.
Oh, how I miss her.
I used to clean for her every week. She had THE BEST stories.

This sweet photo is not of a relative of mine.
It just makes me smile every time I see it.
It kinda reminds me of my daddy & me!

Sweet mornin' sunshine!
Have I ever told y'all I love vintage linens? ;)
(The sheets are actually Simply Shabby Chic, but oh so vintage-y!)
My bedside "table" - a child's chair with stack-o-books.
The first sweet rose of the year.
Isn't it sweet!
Wish I could attach the smell for ya!
Hope you're enjoying this fine weather as much as I!

spring has sprung...

The woods are a breathtaking sight with the redbuds putting on their show.
(My niece Abs thinks that it is just plain wrong to call these trees redbuds when in fact they are pink!)
I just can't get enough of daffs!
Sadly, they are just about done for the year.
I love these little wild violets.
They grow everywhere!
I remember picking them for Mayday gifts when I was a little girl
& we still lived in town.

The chickie-poos are getting big!
This is one of the lil roosters.
He is the lucky one who will get to...live.
He's quite friendly (for now at least),
here he is trotting up to say "hello!"
The day of reckoning is coming for the extra roosters,
as well as my impulse buy of meatbirds.
No photos of the meaties.
You wouldn't want to see them any way.
They look like a cross between a chicken & a bulldog.

Here are my newest little feathered friends-
Four sweet little ducklings! ^_^
I'm hoping there are some females in this bunch-
they lay the BEST eggs for baking.

Well that's what I'm up to...
how 'bout you?

delicate lemon squares...

Much like Beth on Little Women whenever I can't think of what to say...
I write a recipe. :)

This recipe is a favorite in our family.
It is a lesson in Always-Give-Recipes-To-Others-in Case-You-Lose-the-Original.
Mema, the original finder of this recipe, had made a copy for my sister Beth a few years back.
She's recently misplaced it so I was quite thankful that it wasn't lost forever.
(I tried others, but the crust wasn't as tender as this one.)

Delicate Lemon Squares

1 cup flour
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1/2 cup butter

***
2 eggs
3/4 cup sugar
3 T. fresh lemon juice + the zest
2 T. flour
1/2 t. baking powder
powdered sugar for dusting

Stir together 1 c. flour & 1/4 c. powdered sugar;
cut in butter 'til mixture clings together.
Press into an un-greased 8x8x2" baking pan.
Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes.

In mixing bowl beat eggs;
add granulated sugar, lemon juice, & zest.
Beat 'til slightly thick & smooth, 8 to 10 minutes.
Stir together 2T. flour & baking powder;
add to egg mixture.
Blend just 'til all is moistened.
Pour over baked layer.
Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes.
Dust with powdered sugar.
Cool; cut into 1" squares.

Yum! ^_^

They don't sit around for too long!

Enjoy!
Michelle ^_^

this, that, & t'other...

Hello Sunshine!
Seems to me Spring is trying to make an appearance.

I call this my "Hello Yellow!" bolero.
My sis gave me this cute birdie dress for Christmas &
I just had to make a suitable sweater to wear with it!
It's so sunshiny! The yarn is Knitpicks' Shine Sport in 'Dandelion' - very aptly named.

Another sure sign of Spring:
Sweet little peeps scampering about in a box.

They're already growing out of the "cute baby stage" and onto the "awkward teenager stage"...
if they were people they'd have braces & pimples. ;)

A new custom embroidery item is in the shop.
I call it the "Your favorite Bible verse here" pillow. :D
A perfect gift for the friend who has everything! ;)

This one has Psalm 94:19 on it.
I have an idea in my head for one sporting some lyrics to a favorite hymn also.

Have a lovely day!
Enjoy the delightful Springish weather.
xo Miss Michelle ^_^
