THE Miss Lemon sweater - Part 1 - Planning...

I have long been an admirer of  Miss Lemon.
Especially as portrayed by Pauline Moran in the Poirot series.
(The one with David Suchet as Poirot. The ONLY one in my humble opinion.)
{Via Pinterest}

This is a character with brains, style, & class.
Not to mention terrific knitwear.
But, I just did.
So...

I've been invited to a Literary Ball coming up in February.
We are asked to come dressed as our favorite literary character.
As I've been itching to make THE Miss Lemon sweater -
she was the first character that leapt to mind!
While I should be in the knitting phase of this project I'm still only in the planning phase.
(Plus, I'm still working on my sister Aimee's cabled sweater.)
Pinterest has proven a very valuable asset in this endeavor.

I just order the yarn. Knit Picks Palette in serrano.
They didn't have just plain red in this weight of yarn.
So now I've started to fret that the color is going to be all wrong
when I see it in person instead of on my computer screen.
{Rolls eyes at herself}
Anyway!
It should be a pretty easy knit.
I plan to just wing it as far as patterns go.
I'll just make a plain cardigan & worry about how to do the bit with the bow when I come to it.
(I can't worry about everything beforehand.) ;)

  2. Oooh that is beautiful!! I can't wait tosee your version - it will doubtless be more beautiful than the original!
You're going to be proud of me - I just started knitting a sweater!! It's the 1930s 3-hour sweater pattern, which will no doubt take me 3 months, but hey, whatever it takes, right?!! :) I just started and already have 4 inches of ribbing done, so I suppose that's not too bad for me.
Thanks for the continual inspiration!! :)

    1. Thanks! I'm just hoping it won't turn out like one of those "Pinterest fails." haha!
Good for you! I can't wait to see the sweater when you're finished. I don't think I've EVER finished a sweater in 3 hours. I'm rather like the tortoise of the tortoise & the hare. Slow & steady wins the race! :D

    2. Oh, I'm sure it will be gorgeous!
I'll definitely post about my sweater when I'm finished. I'm afraid this one is going to be just a practice run because it is too small, but I figure it will give me the know-how to be able to make it again with alterations.
That's assuming I live long enough to finish it. ;)
I am excited though!! Slow and steady...that's me!!

  4. Looks like a fun project! I am sure it will be terrific, your knitting always is. : ) I like the bow at the neckline, it looks so very 1930's.

  6. This will be a wonderful piece when its completed, and you will look darling in it! It is a very clever idea to slip a bow in the top of a sweater! I think my sister will enjoy this trick even more than I though, since it is she who is avid about knitting currently. :)

Hope you untangle the knots in your lovely scheme!

    Love,

Jessica, the eldest sister & singer

    1. Thanks Jessica! I have an idea of how to accomplish the slip-through bow floating around in my head. :} I thoroughly enjoy trying to figure out that sort of thing.

    1. haha! Here's hoping anyway, Rachel! I like to say I think I do my best work at the last minute...which is why I wait 'til then to do it. (I'm really just a procrastinator, but it sounds better when I say it like that.) ;)

    1. From what I can see Miss Lemon wears a lower calf length black skirt. That's what I'm planning on! :D Wish I could watch it with ya! Love you too!
